The Story of this project
This woodworking mirror project began with a striking piece of mesquite, purchased from a sawmill just outside of Dripping Springs, Texas. The live edge wood plank featured natural markings and a flowing grain that immediately suggested its transformation into a distinctive mirror frame. With its rich color and organic beauty, the mesquite wood brings warmth and character, making it a versatile piece that complements nearly any home environment.

The Process
The creation of this live edge mirror began with carefully stripping away any remaining bark to reveal the wood’s natural contours. The mesquite plank was cut to precise dimensions to make sure that the four corners aligned. Then a wide groove was routed into the back of each piece to house the mirror. The wood pieces were carefully glued together to create the frame. The surface was meticulously sanded smooth and finished with two coats of Tung oil, enhancing the grain and color. The mirror was set into place with clear silicone adhesive and reinforced with wood supports for lasting stability. Finally, hanging hardware and cord were added, making the mirror ready to display as a one-of-a-kind piece of functional art.
