This combination wood – metal window shutter is one a series of antique wooden windows that originated in India
The Story of this project
The small town of Round Top Texas is famous as a center of antiques. It’s a town where twice a year there are huge antique events for antique and gift shop owners and distributors come to find items for their stores. I return to this area a number of times each year looking for unique items I can restore. This time I found a series of antique wooden/metal window shutters from India that caught my eye. The metal was severely rusted and the wood in bad shape. I had a sense though that there was beauty beneath all of that crud.
I was intrigued by the designs and could see that with some love, elbow grease and polish, these essentially abandoned could become truly unique home decor items.
Where to Use
These wooden window shutters lend themselves to fantastic wall decor. They add a different dimension to walls that paintings or photos just can’t deliver.
The Process
The process starts by carefully removing removing the two window shutter panels from the outside frame.
