This semi circular wooden window frame was given a new personality with dichroic blue and white stained glass.

The Story of this project

The small town of Round Top Texas is famous as a center of antiques. It’s a town where twice a year there are huge antique events for antique and gift shop owners and distributors come to find items for their stores. On a visit to the area, I found this window frame in a large barn that sold a multitude of wood items, such as doors, windows and other similar wood items.

Where to Use

This colorful stained glass window works well on the wall in an office, entryway and even in a living room/den.

The Process

The process stared by carefully removing all the existing glass from the window. Some of the glass had broken and extra care was needed to extract out all the small slivers. Then each window pane opening was given a number and a paper template made for each of them. The stained glass was cut to the precise dimensions using the templates.

The wood frame was cleaned and then sanded on both sides. The metal spokes were cleaned and polished with different grades of steel wool. The frame was now stained with a walnut oil based stain. A coat of satin polyurethane was applied to the both the wood and the metal spoke.
